Bangladesh authorities arrest Indian national with 11.8 kilograms of cannabis

Authorities arrested an Indian national at Dhaka’s international airport after finding 11.8 kilograms of cannabis concealed in his luggage, the Department of Narcotics Control said Saturday.

Md Zulfikar Molla, 33, arrived from Bangkok aboard Thai Airways flight TG321. A narcotics control team intercepted him at about 1:30 p.m. in the green channel of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s arrival hall after receiving a tip.

Officials searched his trolley bag in the presence of witnesses and airport authorities. They found cannabis hidden beneath clothing in 21 plastic packets.

Authorities also seized Molla’s Indian passport, boarding card and an Oppo smartphone containing an Indian SIM card.

A case was filed under the Narcotics Control Act of 2018. The department said Molla told investigators he intended to remain in Bangladesh for two or three days before returning to India.
