Bangladesh will restore the phrase “This passport is valid for all countries of the world except Israel” to newly issued passports and add watermarks honoring three people killed during the July Mass Uprising of 2024, according to a home ministry directive.
The phrase, removed in May 2021, will appear opposite the data page in new 48-page and 64-page electronic passports. The ministry said the wording reflects Bangladesh’s policy of not recognizing Israel.
New watermarks will depict Abu Sayed, Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho and Wasim Akram under the title “July Mass Uprising 2024.” Redesigned booklets will also feature the Oriental magpie-robin, Central Shaheed Minar, National Martyrs’ Memorial and National Parliament House.
The ministry ordered the Department of Immigration and Passports to introduce the changes progressively. Several previous images, including Padma Bridge, metrorail and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mausoleum, will be removed.
